Hi All:
So it's a big game and a little overwhelming. What should I be concentrating on? Running missions for dilithium? Energy credits? Just take whatever mission comes along?
I'm Lt. Grade 6 right now.
I am sure I'm not good at it, but I seem to do OK with ship fighting. Killed a bunch of klingons last night. I'm having a tough time figuring out how to control my away team. They tend to run around like a bunch of hamsters on speed. Any tips would be appreciated.
The missions all seem very easy but I suspect that is because they are very low level. I got killed last night because I could not figure out how to get away when jumped by at least a dozen klingon ships on the mission that takes you to fight in a war zone. But there seemed to be no penalty for dying, I am guessing that changes at some point as well.
Thanks again and hope to see you all in game.
I will not be on tonight - I've got a work event I need to attend.

First things first, level up.
Leveling in STO is pretty fast because of Episode missions. Up until around level 40 you will game 1 level per episode, not to mention doing all of the episode missions will give you some pretty nice rewards.
Once you hit 50 you will have plenty to do in the way to farming up marks, dilith and whatnot.
Ground combat, frankly, sucks. Most of us avoid it, but I can say what will help you in so be sure and level up your Boffs and keep them geared, this will make ground missions less of a hassle. Once you hit level 50 you can all together drop ground if you want too.
Missions are pretty easy, this doesn't change until you do them on elite. Elite missions can be a bit of a challenge, and when you die you start getting injuries or damaged systems you have to fix.
Doing missions on elite with a group can be a bit of fun, just hit people up to see if they want to go, many times the old quests will have rare gear when done at level 50 so it shouldn't be too hard to find people to run with.

Oh and I nearly forgot, once you have at least level 11, you can run an event called Mirror Invasion. This event, which lasts an hour and ran with a group of geared level 50s will net you about 8-13 levels. We leveled William from 41-49 in one event. Just ask about this in game and we will be more than happy to run you through.

This is great help, I appreciate it. One question. You recommend that I run episode missions and level up. Is there some way to tell which missions are episode missions? Are they all episode missions?
Thanks again for the help.

One additional question. I was reading the fleet code of conduct and it talks about Fleet Credit Donations. How do I earn fleet credits and how do I donate them?
Thanks.

- Episode Missions are listed in the Episode Tab when you click on the "Hail Starfleet" Icon on your HUD
- You earn Fleet Credits by making donations to Fleet Holdings. You do this by opening the Fleet Window and going to the Holdings Tab.

Advance, advance, advance. Be smart about your skill choices. When in doubt, ask someone who knows.
When you get comfortable with combat, you can delve into PVP missions which nets you quite a bit of dilithium and loot which in turn can be turned into EC or you can use it to advance in the fleet or you can undertake a Task Force Omega contribution and earn pretty powerful gear and DOffs. Thats not till level 50, though.
Don't hesitate to ask questions and of course, have fun! It's not about the game so much as it is enjoying youself.

I would recommend lots and lots of Starbase 24 and Klingon Scout Force as well.

I agree the Starbase 24 and Klingon Scout Force as well as the Gorn Mine Field can give you some good gear for 1st and second place for free.
