Engineers have the potential to do a very good amount of damage while being able to take a good portion of damage
The only two useful kits i have found are the enemy neutralization and fabrication specialist kits as they do the best in their respective place enemy neut being close range and fab spec being ranged
My kit of choice is enemy neutralization to make the best use of this kit all you have to do is charge straight into a group of enemies and place your mine barrier then quickly drop your transphasic bomb this deals a massive amount of aoe damage and after these are placed you can run out and start firing or if you prefer use a melee weapon ( this kit is the best for melee imo because the explosives you use seem to ignore shields the same being with melee weapons) the only time you need to use fuse armor and weapons malfunction is when you see a heavy tactical or regular tactical drone then you use those two abilities while you are running in so the big nasty drones are unable to shoot you or move out of the explosives
The other kit that is very effective is the Fab spec this kit gives you turret, a quantum mortar launcher, a seeker drone, AND a medical generator this is a nice kit for those who like to keep their distance from those nasty borg or if they are defending a position in mine trap i suggest trying to get a purple armory DOFF that gives the chance to spawn a extra turret when it procs youll have three turrets out at once! when setting the medical generator it helps to place your cover shield first then the medical generator behind it because those borg like to one shot your generator
Your captain abilities are a mix of shield heals and a good aoe ability have your support drone out as much as possible for shield heals and use your orbital strike when it is appropriate if you took a big hit then use your reroute power to shields and engineering team for even more shield heals (these two abilities can also be used on others to heal their shields and they would be appreciative that you saved their butt)
Even with all these shield heals there will be times it would be best to take cover behind a wall or tree to let your shields regenerate
